Critic Reviews for Peaky Blinders Series 5

Twenty nine episodes in, Peaky Blinders proves it can still pack a punch.

Again, Paul Anderson as Tommy's bawling, brawling, semi-animal older brother, Arthur, filled the screen every time he appeared, never more so than when being humiliated by his wife.

A season that steps into the quicksand of the Great Depression... clearly makes a door-kicking-open return to wonderfully portrayed gangsterism.

Never mind the substance, feel the style. Roll on season six and, most likely, seven.

Sep 30, 2019 | Full Review…

This series has seen a much needed return to form, helped by Arthur going back to his mad old, bad old ways and the presence of genuine evil in the character of Oswald Mosely (Sam Claflin, terrific).

Peaky Blinders has been one of the best dramas the BBC has produced in recent years and, for all the suspension of disbelief it demands of the viewer, the finale was still brilliantly exhilarating.

Sep 23, 2019 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

As much as I hate to say it, the Peaky Blinders finale was a let-down. But perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that the big climax was a bit of a damp squib. The truth is the whole of season five was on the underwhelming side.

Aug 26, 2019 | Full Review…

Peaky Blinders is back and it is still the coolest show on television. Brace yourselves for six weeks of existential dread, revisionist history, stylish visuals and some seriously hammy Brummy accents.

Sep 3, 2019 | Full Review…

The series is undoubtedly stylish, indeed with too many stylistic tics for its own good, but the characters are really nothing more than violent thugs.

Sep 3, 2019 | Full Review…

Many of the show's trademark visual gimmicks are starting to look tired and self-parodic.

Visually stunning and crammed full of compelling performances. Cillian Murphy is simply phenomenal as Thomas Shelby.

This series has yet to dissapoint me!!

Season 5's ending is absolutely terrible. I've been a huge fan since season 1 but I will never watch the show again. They writers are obviously doing the "walking dead" lets leave the audience hanging on so they tune in next season. Ruined the entire show.

A great season, building nicely onto season 4. The final episode being one of the most nerve wracking episodes of tv ive ever watched.

I found the first four episodes to be quite weak, definitely style over substance, & the directing was pretty distracting at points. But Episode 5 was incredible and the finale was solid so I'm hopeful that Season 6 will improve.

loved this show has a few minor errors here and there but overall just perfect

Not as good as some seasons, seems like they were running out of new ideas so went with the easy fascist plot.

Still like the show but could do without every shot, of something as simple as exiting a car, being a slo-mo Tarantino parody. The visual style pulls you out of the story and doesn't work when it constantly draws attention to itself.

Tommy, Arthur & Aunt Polly are just magnificent as always, what with the fancy wear they now have..but I wanted the old Aberama Gold from season 4, yet when he was just about to be part of the F*cking peaky blinders, you whacked him! but you got Alfie back, so yeah! cant wait for the next season you effing Blinders!!!

Still going very strong, last season felt very short though in comparison to previous seasons. Fantastic to see a well like character return and interesting to see the politics unfold
